A mildly savoury green tea with a smooth body and a faint meadow-like aroma. Nicely balanced, without too much grassiness or umami pushing through.

A wild west approved sip of satisfaction. Gunpowder is one of the finest green teas in the world. Each leaf of premium-quality Chinese green tea is tightly rolled into a gunpowder shot pellet that you can shoot straight… into your cup! The smooth liquid boasts a mildly savoury flavour profile without heavy cloying known to many Chinese green teas.  A tea that lingers delicately like a wisp from the barrel of your smokin’ shotgun. Yeehaw – the tea connoisseur’s way.

If you like a plain green tea that isnt too heavy, grassy or umami then this is the pick from the Art of Tea staff. Also 1/2 a teaspoon of leaf goes a long way!

(NOTE CHANGE OF SUPPLIERS IN OCTOBER 2025 – Flavour profile almost identical, dry leaf colour paler, with a tinge of grey, slightly more open “pellet”, a hint of “meadow” in the brewed aroma. Art of Teas staff rate this new supply of Gunpowder Green as high if not higher than previously sourced Gunpowder Green Tea)

OUR STORY

From market stall to leading tea retailer

The Art of Tea began in 2000 with twelve varieties, sold from a stall at Hobart's Salamanca Market every Saturday.

Twenty-five years on, we still blend by hand in small batches — right here in Tasmania, now with over 150 teas and herbal blends to explore.
