Smoke-dried over resinous wood fires, the leaves deliver a deep, complex flavour of wood smoke, rich leather and nuances of tobacco — a bold, indulgent brew for those who savour intensitea. Indulge in the timeless ritual of a true smoked black tea.
A little about how our lapsang is made:

Our Lapsang Souchong is crafted using the traditional method of smoking during manufacture of the leaf. The leaves are first withered over fires of pine or cypress wood, fired, and rolled and then pressed into wooden barrels and covered with cloth to ferment until they emit a pleasant aroma. The leaves are then fired again and placed in bamboo baskets hung over a woody fire to dry and absorb the smoke flavour.

Manufacturing Process: Orthodox
Leaf appearance: Medium - long wiry, black leaf.

OUR STORY

From market stall to leading tea retailer

The Art of Tea began in 2000 with twelve varieties, sold from a stall at Hobart's Salamanca Market every Saturday.

Twenty-five years on, we still blend by hand in small batches — right here in Tasmania, now with over 150 teas and herbal blends to explore.
