Tasting Notes

An intensely aromatic smoky tea with rich, robust tobacco-like flavour, though gentler than Lapsang Souchong. Deep and evocative, with a campfire feel.

Although our tea has not travelled by camel for 16 months across snow-covered steppes between (Imperial) China and Russia, resting each night by a campfire, it is still a hearty brew that makes you wish to be beside a crackling fireplace. Our unique blend of speciality Chinese teas including our very popular Lapsang Souchong boasts an intensely smoky aroma and a rich, robust, tobacco-like flavour. Not for the faint-hearted, but not as intense as our Lapsang.

OUR STORY

From market stall to leading tea retailer

The Art of Tea began in 2000 with twelve varieties, sold from a stall at Hobart's Salamanca Market every Saturday.

Twenty-five years on, we still blend by hand in small batches — right here in Tasmania, now with over 150 teas and herbal blends to explore.
